Much of the time, cabin crew recruiters are working crew, seniors, and trainers. They are crew looking for crew and they know the job like the back of their hand. That’s critical to the assessment because they know how crew behave.
They don’t think, “oh look, you have a hair out of place, therefore I cannot work with you”. No, they think, “would I trust you to crosscheck my doors, handle an entitled businessman, and tell the drunken passenger to sit down?”
During your assessment, it’s not about being talkative or quiet because it’s all of it. Crew all not always talking to passengers, they are listening. Crew are not always leaders, sometimes they are followers. Crew can think independently AND work with their team? They can think critically and give constructive feedback, without feeling the need to be over-polite.
This is what recruiters look for in group discussions and tasks. This is also why it feels random, because crew don’t have one look or one quality, they are multi-dimensional.
